Glass fibre filters are for increased throughputs, their major use is as depth prefilter, placed directly on top of a membrane filter. The standard type 13400 contains a binder. It has a high particle loading capacity, but for very "dirty" liquids the thicker type 13430 can be more effective. 13440 is a finer, binder-free type, and is recommended for the prefiltration of tissue culture media. Flow rates: 320ml/mn. Maximum temperatures: 220°C. Sterilization by autoclaving (at 121°C or 134°) or dry heat (180°C). Approximative thickness are 0.55mm for 13400, 1.55mm for 13430.
